Angela Burns is an award winning Dunedin based artist who specialises in abstract paintings which are inspired by the beautiful landscape of Otago's coast; in particular Waitati, Doctor's Point, and Blueskin Bay. Her work reflects the history and spirit of Otago and it's beaches focusing in particular on: the shadows of changing seasons, the abstraction on sea and sky, and the awe-inspiring effects of the land and sea.
She studied at the Dunedin School of Art after leaving secondary school in the late seventies, gained her Diploma in Fine Arts, began post grad diploma teaching Christchurch College of Education, Taieri High and various after-school programmes for a few years.
Returning to Dunedin, Angela then took up a position for 3 years as an illustrator for DNTV 1 with the 'Playschool' and 'Spot On' children's programmes, then began a career as a museum curator at the Otago Settlers Museum for 18 years gaining a diploma in Museum Studies
Angela then returned to University to complete BA in Education and Art History, and then spent a further year at Dunedin College of Eduacation gaining her Diploma in Teaching. She went on to study for Post grad, whilst running a business jointly with her husband Ivan, The Green Acorn Café Gallery; combining her art skills to the cafe giving it the excellent atmosphere it has today.
Angela's artwork can be found in many galleries across Dunedin including: Gallery de novo, Moray gallery, Green Acorn Cafe gallery, and The Artist's Room. You may also find Angela's work in private collections all throughout the country.
